Educators teach about the Multiple Lines of Defense Strategy for combatting hurricane storm surge. You can learn more about the strategy here.

Sand is flying, drills are whirling and excitement fills the air of the New Canal Lighthouse.

But what is all the hubbub about? Is the building getting a new facelift? Nope! But the education department is!

That’s right, our education team is busy revamping old programming and creating new and exciting educational opportunities.

“We have been developing some amazing new interactive programs on water quality and coastal issues,” said Education Coordinator Kimberly Cooke. “We can’t wait to roll them out to the public this fall.”

Join the education department on August 7, 2019 to sample their new educational offerings as well as free food and drinks. The open house runs from 5 -8pm at the New Canal Lighthouse.

Come interact without Lakefront Learning Lab. Sign-up for one of our school-based, deep dive programs on water quality or stormwater where the lab comes to you and your students. Visit and chat with our partners about the services they can offer.

“The goal of our Educator Open House is to connect teachers and schools throughout the Basin with our hands-on, inquiry-based programs that include labs on stormwater, green infrastructure, marine debris, coastal land loss and restoration, water quality, and so much more,” said Kimberly.

The education department cannot wait to get to know you, so please drop by. They hope to be a valuable resource for you and your students. Come let them know how they can be of the most help this upcoming school year.
