Science informs everything we do. Community is why we do it.
Our Community
Southeast Louisiana
Since Pontchartrain Conservancy’s formation, dedicated residents have been at the core of our work to address environmental issues across the basin. Our collaboration with passionate community members made us what we are today—a science-based conservation organization serving as proof that each individual can make a positive difference for our basin and our coast. Today, our community members are vital partners in our work to solve some of Louisiana’s most pressing environmental concerns.
Louisiana is facing many threats from sea level rise, coastal land loss, and climate change. We continue to work towards scientific solutions to protect and preserve our way of life in south Louisiana. Our Community program connects people to our mission to foster understanding, advocacy, and activism for environmental sustainability across our region. Contact us for more information on our outreach activities at outreach@scienceforourcoast.org.

Community Events
We bring science to you! Connecting at events that align with our mission and goals helps us reach a diverse audience interested in environmental conservation and the Pontchartrain Basin. Attending these events helps raise awareness about the Pontchartrain Basin's significance and our ongoing efforts to protect and restore this vital ecosystem. Whether explaining coastal restoration techniques, educating communities on flood risk, or showcasing our hands-on science activities, we use these opportunities to educate the current and future generations of stewards for our environment.
Community Clean Ups and Storm Preparation
You may not think of litter cleanup as hurricane preparation but cleaning up storm drains and streets is a great way to help reduce flooding. We host the annual Storm Aware and Prepare event, providing our community with the knowledge and materials to clean their own storm drains. We partner with organizations who attend these events to provide hurricane preparedness supplies and information to community members. Storm Aware and Prepare helps our community get and stay prepared for hurricane season.
Advocacy
We provide a voice for our communities and stakeholders at the tables where decisions are happening. Our scientific expertise and our community engagement help residents connect and amplify concerns in their own environment. When provided the right tools and data, they can bring strength and experience to decision makers to ensure a collaborative process. We are proud to partner with other organizations so our collective voice is more powerful in advocating for our community.
