What is spring sweep?
The Pontchartrain Conservancy (PC) and Entergy have partnered to present the sixth annual Spring Sweep 2020. The date was originally set for Saturday, March 21st, 2020 but has been moved to the last weekend of May; Saturday, May 30th and Sunday, May 31st to prepare the region for the start of hurricane season coming June 1st.
Volunteers, partners, and sponsors are encouraged to help clean up the areas that drain into Lake Pontchartrain by cleaning curbs, ditches, and storm drains along city streets and rural roadways. As we all prepare for hurricane season, Spring Sweep is an opportunity to contribute in a safe, socially-distanced way. This project will help prevent our metro area from flooding and at the same time protect Lake Pontchartrain from harmful debris and toxins.
We ask that volunteers remain mindful of the guidelines put in place by the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana while participating. Volunteers are encouraged to participate with their families or in small socially-distanced groups. We ask that volunteers tag a photo of themselves or others freshening their front or back yard, or collecting the neighborhood litter with the hashtag #SpringSweep2020 on any social media outlet.
