Students will explore water pollution in their own backyard by using a variety of tools. They will investigate the quality of a nearby water source, and they will solve a water-based mystery by tracking pollution to its most likely source.

In this guided review, you will learn about the different types of water pollution, the impacts they have on our waterways, and the work being done to mitigate the damage. This review aims to identify the sources of water pollution and the communities that are most affected by it.

Students will investigate the quality of water by collecting data on parameters including temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, nitrates, and nitrites. They will determine what it means for water to be "safe," and identify what causes can alter water quality.
