Meet Our AmeriCorps Team: Lighthouse

Joel Campbell serves as the Outreach Coordinator. A Michigander to the core, he attended Grand Valley State University where he earned a B.A. in journalism. He has worked as an environmental journalist for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and been involved in policy and advocacy work with numerous environmental groups and nonprofits.

Having spent his life in west Michigan, Joel was drawn to serve in New Orleans for its history, culture, and environment. When he’s not in the office, he enjoys exploring Louisiana, especially on his bike. After his AmeriCorps term, Joel plans on returning to Michigan to pursue a career in teaching with a focus on Earth science.

Kelowna Ostwald serves as PC's Education Assistant. She recently graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in Environmental Biology with minors in Spanish and Public Health. Originally from San Francisco, California, her passion for environmental conservation and education was instilled at a young age. Her belief that science should be accessible to everyone led her to her pursue a service term with PC helping to create and run meaningful, hands-on environmental education programs for kids in the Greater New Orleans Area.
In her free time, Kelowna enjoys hiking, scuba diving, and playing with dogs. When her service term ends, she intends to move back to San Francisco to explore other opportunities in the environmental field.
