Making an Impact

Making an impact

The Pontchartrain Conservancy makes an impact on the communities around the basin like no one else can:

  • We teach students about our natural environments and encourage them to lead the way in taking care of our home

  • We encourage community members to play a part in understanding our basin and to sustain it for years to come

  • We restore swamp habitat critical for buffering low-lying communities from intense storm surge

  • We clean up harmful marine debris, helping to keep blue crab on our plate and innocent wildlife like diving birds out of lost crab traps

  • We inform the community about changes across the basin and promote educated recreation by publishing weekly water quality results from around the lake

  • We inspect home sewer systems and work with homeowners to improve their waste management to ensure healthy and swimmable waterways

Without help from foundation members, community partners, and countless volunteers, none of this would be possible. Together we can achieve transformational outcomes that improve the basin for us now and for the future.
