WHAT IS BEACH SWEEP?
August 2022 | Around the Pontchartrain Basin
Our 33rd Annual Beach Sweep is coming up soon! As we head into the peak of storm season, it's more important than ever to get out and clean our streets, parks, yards, and storm drains that are filled with debris. Be a part of Beach Sweep in August and help restore our community while you also put litter in its place. We still encourage you to register to receive approved volunteer hours and track your trash if you can!
Beach Sweep is the biggest community cleanup in Southeastern Louisiana. Last year we picked up trash from our streets, catch basins, and waterways around the basin. All throughout the region, we can care for the neighborhoods and areas that drain into the Pontchartrain Basin. We'll clean curbs, ditches, and storm drains on city streets and rural roadways. We encourage individuals and groups to safely volunteer during August. Help end litter in Louisiana while being a part of the International Coastal Cleanup!

Presented by Toyota, Pontchartrain Conservancy and NOLA Ready are proud to host the second annual “Storm Aware and Prepare” event following the success of 2021’s inaugural event. At our New Canal Lighthouse (8001 Lakeshore Drive New Orleans, 70124) we will host a giveaway of hurricane supplies and information ahead of the most active part of the 2022 hurricane season. Residents can expect supplies to include emergency kits, diapers, feminine hygiene supplies and more!
In addition to hurricane prep resources, this family-friendly event will also include coastal educational activities for adults and children. Additional partners include Second Harvest Food Bank, the City of New Orleans, and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services. Stay tuned for more information!
